SharePoint Explorer

Browse one site's files

Pick one site and browse its files the way you would a folder on your PC: its libraries, its lists, Site Assets and the files that sit at the top of the site outside any library. Download, upload, make folders and search the whole site by name. It works on any sign-in, with no admin consent.

Makes changes. Upload, New folder, Edit code and Edit content type change the site. An upload into a folder that already holds a file of the same name asks first: overwrite, keep both, or don't upload.

What it does

  • What is actually stored in a site, including the folders a library view hides.
  • Where a file is, when you only know part of its name.
  • A quick way to pull a folder down to this PC, or put files into one, without a browser.

How it runs

  1. Sign in. Any of ShareMaster's sign-ins. No Microsoft Graph permission is used, so no admin consent is needed.
  2. Choose a site. One site. It opens as a page of its own, with Back to return to the picker.
  3. Browse. Folders on the left, contents on the right. Open a folder to go into it.
  4. Act on what you see. Download, Upload, New folder or search by name. Right-click a text file to edit its code, or a list's content type to edit it.

How it works

Everything is read and written through SharePoint itself, on the sign-in you chose, with no Microsoft Graph call; that is why no admin consent is asked for. The site opens at its top folder, which holds its libraries and lists as folders alongside Site Assets and any loose files, so you see what is stored rather than what a library view shows.

Search walks the site's folders one at a time, from the top down, and matches on names. It does not use SharePoint's search index, which lags new files by minutes and is not available on every sign-in. A folder it cannot read is skipped, and the result says how many were skipped.

An upload first checks the open folder for names already there. If any clash, you choose once for the whole upload: overwrite them, keep both (the incoming file gets a new name), or upload nothing. A local folder is uploaded with everything inside it, merging into a folder of the same name when one exists. Each file is sent on its own, so a file that is locked or vanishes is counted as failed and the rest carry on.

A download writes into the folder on this PC that you choose. A folder comes down with everything beneath it. Names SharePoint allows but Windows does not are made safe, and two that would end up the same get a number added rather than overwriting each other; a file already in that PC folder under the same name is replaced. A failed file is named in the summary and the rest continue.

Edit code opens a text file in an editor and saves it back only after checking the file has not changed since it was opened. Script pages such as .aspx can only be saved where the site allows custom script. Nothing in this screen deletes or moves anything in SharePoint.

What you need

  • Read access to the site to browse and download; write access to the folder you upload into, make a folder in or edit a file in.

What it will not do

  • One site at a time. For the whole tenant, use Tenant Explorer, which needs a one-time admin consent.
  • Search matches names only, not what is inside a file, and does not use SharePoint's search index, so a file uploaded a moment ago is found straight away. Folders it cannot read are counted and said.
  • Nothing is deleted from here.
  • A download into a folder on this PC replaces a file already there with the same name.
  • Script files such as .aspx can only be saved back where the site allows custom script.
