Frequently Asked Questions

ShareMaster is a Windows desktop app for SharePoint migration and management. It bundles four tools — Clone Master (copy sites, lists, libraries and files), Recycle Master (search and bulk-restore the SharePoint Recycling Bin), Space Master (trim file versions to save storage) and the SharePoint Explorer — into a single application that runs on your machine.

ShareMaster supports SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365) and on-premises SharePoint 2013, 2016 and 2019. Authentication is handled with modern OAuth for SharePoint Online and with legacy auth for on-premises.

ShareMaster is installed and run on your local Windows machine. Your SharePoint credentials and content never pass through our servers — connections go directly from your computer to your SharePoint tenant.

Yes. Recycle Master and Clone Master both come with a 14-day free trial. The Community license is free for life and includes the SharePoint Explorer, version reset and bulk content-type updates.

Licences are sold per activation, available as a 1-year or 2-year subscription. The Community license is free and stays free. Pricing for Recycle Master and Clone Master is on the Pricing page.

ShareMaster connects with the credentials you supply at sign-in. To migrate content, the account needs at least Site Collection Administrator on the source and target sites. Read-only operations such as reporting only need the matching read permissions.

Subscriptions can be cancelled from your account portal at any time. Cancellation stops auto-renewal — your existing licence remains valid until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Clone Master copies SharePoint content with high fidelity. It can copy entire sites, individual lists or document libraries, and files between sites or between separate SharePoint Online tenants. Views, fields, lookup columns, content types and JSON view formatting are preserved.

Yes. Clone Master can copy lists, libraries, files and metadata across tenant boundaries. You sign in to both source and target separately and Clone Master handles the cross-tenant transfer.

Clone Master can replicate item-level and list-level permissions during migration. Permissions are mapped where users exist on the target; unresolved users are reported so you can fix them up.

Yes. List and library views, including their columns, filters, sort order and JSON view formatting, are carried across when you copy a list with Clone Master.

Yes. Clone Master detects lookup relationships and reconnects them on the target as long as the looked-up list has also been migrated.

Recycle Master adds true search to the SharePoint Recycling Bin. You can filter by title, original location, list ID, author, deleted-by user, item type and date, then restore one item or perform a bulk restore. It also lets you clear Recycling Bins in bulk across an entire tenant.

The default SharePoint Recycling Bin only paginates a flat list and offers minimal filtering. Recycle Master indexes deleted items so you can search across an entire site collection or tenant and restore matching items in one operation.

Yes. Once you have filtered down to the items you need, you can select any number of them and restore them all in a single operation.

Yes. You can select multiple sites and clear their Recycling Bins in one go to reclaim storage quickly. The action is logged and run in batches to stay within SharePoint throttling limits.

Space Master analyses SharePoint storage and trims old file versions using retention and date rules so you reclaim space without losing the latest copy. It can also report on where storage is being consumed across a site collection or tenant.

You set a retention rule (for example, keep the latest 10 versions) and optionally a date rule (for example, ignore files modified in the last 30 days). The Version Trimmer previews the impact, then deletes only the older versions that fall outside your rules.

Yes. The retention setting keeps the most recent N versions of each file and removes the older ones. The latest version is always kept.

Yes. Date rules let you skip files modified after a chosen cut-off, or only remove versions older than a specific time window, so active files are left alone.

Yes. ShareMaster can reset version history and renumber files so the next version becomes v1.0. This works on both individual files and entire libraries.

You can preview the exact impact before any changes are made, retain a configurable number of recent versions, and run trimming in batches. Combined with date safeguards this lets you trim versions at scale with low risk.
