Who builds it
ShareMaster is built by Michael Tippett at Devpoint, a software business trading since 2014 and based in Queensland, Australia. Michael has spent over a decade running SharePoint migrations for organisations of every size, and ShareMaster grew out of the tooling built for that work: it exists because the same admin jobs kept coming up on every engagement, and none of them should take a week of PowerShell.
What it is
ShareMaster is a Windows desktop app for SharePoint Online administrators. It is not SaaS. You install it on your own machine, sign in to your Microsoft 365 tenant with a standard OAuth prompt handled locally, and the app talks directly to SharePoint from your PC. Your credentials and your content never pass through ShareMaster's servers - there is no middle tier to trust, audit, or wait on.
The app is organised into modules:
- Clone Master - migrate sites, lists, libraries and files between sites or tenants, keeping views, metadata and lookups intact.
- Recycle Master - search a site collection's Recycling Bin with real filters, then restore or clear in bulk.
- Space Master - trim old file versions with retention and date rules to reclaim SharePoint storage.
- Community tier - free for life, including exploring your tenant and running Excel reports on content, versions and storage.
What it is not
Buyers ask these questions first, so here are the honest answers rather than the optimistic ones:
- It is not a backup product. Restore works inside SharePoint's native 93-day recycle bin retention window, not beyond it.
- There is no scheduler. Nothing runs on a timer; recurring jobs need a script and a task of your own.
- It migrates SharePoint to SharePoint only. File shares, NAS devices and local folders are not migration sources.
- Recycle bin search and restore work one site collection at a time, because SharePoint scopes its bins per site collection.
- Version trimming is permanent. Trimmed versions do not go to the recycle bin.
- It is not a cloud service. It runs on the administrator's own Windows machine, which is exactly why your data never leaves your control.
