Viewing Version history in SharePoints Document Sets.

SharePoint offers a handy feature known as Document Sets, aimed at improving the organization and management of groups of related documents. Unlike standard folders, Document Sets allow for the application of uniform metadata across multiple documents, which helps in keeping track of and managing documents more effectively. This is especially useful for complex projects or document-heavy tasks in an organization, enhancing both access and collaboration.

However, a limitation becomes apparent when Document Sets are enabled in SharePoint: the Version History for the Document Set is not readily visible. This can be problematic when trying to ascertain the history or identify who made changes to the metadata of a document set.

There are a few ways to navigate this issue. One option is to use PowerShell to track these changes. Another, more user-friendly solution, is provided by ShareMasters through its 'Explore Master' feature, which is also included in the free version of the software.

To use ShareMaster for viewing the Version History of Document Sets, start by opening 'Explore Master' and connecting to your SharePoint site. After connecting, go to 'files' and select the library of interest. In 'Explore Master', Document Sets appear similar to folders, allowing you to easily locate the set you want to investigate. Once you find the Document Set, click on it, and then on the right-hand side, select 'Version History'. This will show a list of all the versions of the document set, and you can expand each version to see more details.

By using these tools, managing and tracking changes in Document Sets within SharePoint becomes more manageable, contributing to a smoother document management process.
